Cookie Munch teaches subtraction as take-away, exactly the way
school introduces it: cookies sit on a ten-frame tray, Munchy
gobbles some one at a time, and each eaten cookie leaves a faded
bite-mark ghost in its spot β so your child can still see the
starting amount while they work out what's left. The number sentence
(7 β 2 = ?) builds itself piece by piece as the munching happens.

Play it together: after Munchy munches, ask "how many did he eat? How do
you know?" before the choices are tapped. On Mystery Munch (7 β ? = 4),
encourage counting UP from what's left β that's the strategy schools build
toward. A miss is always gentle: the cookies are simply counted again together.
