What does Fizz's Fraction Factory teach?

It teaches the three things children need for fractions: building a fraction (shade 3/4 of a pizza), naming a fraction (write the numerator and denominator for a shaded shape), and comparing two fractions to see which is greater or whether they are equal. Denominators run from halves and quarters up to thirds, sixths and eighths. Designed for ages 7–8.

Fizz's Fraction Factory teaches fractions three ways, because knowing the words is not the same as understanding the amount:

Build — given 3/4, shade exactly that much of a pizza or tray. The denominator tells you how many equal parts; the numerator tells you how many to take.
Name — given a shaded shape, write the fraction (numerator over denominator).
Compare — two shapes, one question: which is more, or are they the same? This is where real understanding shows, and where 2/4 = 1/2 stops being a rule and starts being obvious.
