Patterning — noticing what repeats and predicting what comes next — is one of
the strongest early predictors of later math skill. Toots starts with simple
AB patterns and grows to AAB, ABC and AABB, and every pattern is also
played as a melody: each fruit has its own note, so your child
can hear the repeat as well as see it. Tap the train any time to sing
the pattern again.

Chant the pattern out loud together — "apple, banana, apple, banana…" —
and pause dramatically at the empty car. Naming the unit ("it goes
apple-banana!") is the real skill. A wrong crate simply replays the song,
so every mistake turns into another round of practice.
