Rhyming is a listening skill, and one of the clearest early signs a child is getting ready to read: to hear that cat and hat rhyme, they have to notice the sounds inside words. Ribbit plays it entirely by ear and picture — every lily pad says its word aloud when tapped, so no reading is needed and even a miss teaches two new words.

Level 1 matches rhyming pairs on two pads; level 2 adds a third pad and the occasional "which does NOT rhyme?" twist; level 3 asks your child to finish Ribbit's silly two-line poems — the step where children begin producing rhymes themselves. A miss is never punished: the words are repeated slowly, and on a second miss the wrong pads simply sink so the right answer is one happy tap away.
