Kindergarten Readiness Checklist
Tick skills off together over the summer โ one or two at a time, no pressure. Unticked boxes aren't problems; they're just what kindergarten is for.
๐งฆ Taking care of me
- โUses the bathroom and washes hands by myself
- โOpens my own lunchbox, wrappers and water bottle
- โPuts on my shoes and coat (velcro counts!)
- โSays goodbye at drop-off with our special ritual
- โAsks a grown-up for help when I need it
๐ Listening & playing
- โFollows two-step directions ("shoes in the basket, then sit down")
- โTakes turns and shares (most of the time!)
- โSits with a story for five-ish minutes
- โTidies up toys when it's tidy-up time
๐ค Letters & words
- โRecognises my own name in writing
- โKnows some letters (about half the alphabet is great)
- โHolds a crayon or pencil comfortably
- โTries writing some letters of my name
๐ข Numbers & shapes
- โCounts 5โ10 real things, touching each one
- โKnows "the last number I say is how many"
- โSpots circles, squares and triangles
- โCompares โ which pile has more?
๐ Feelings
- โCan name happy, sad, angry and scared
- โKnows wobbly feelings about new things are okay
- โHas practised our morning routine like a rehearsal
